Anouk Govil – The need for staying active outdoors for good health

Anouk Govil is a student from the USA, and she is deeply interested in Economics. She loves sports and says that people should sit less and move around more for good health. She says that people should stop spending hours sitting in front of a TV or computer, even entertainment. Outdoor sports and daily activities refresh the mind and body. Simple things like walking to the local store for groceries, climbing up a steep hill, cycling, enjoying an after-dinner stroll with your family, and other similar activities can do wonders for your mental and physical health. If you are lucky and have a large garden, you can play sports like football, badminton, tennis, etc. with your friends. You can even take your dog out and play fetch with him/her to get fit. The goal here is to get out of the house and be active.

Dangers of a sedentary lifestyle

Most people are not even aware of the dangers of a sedentary lifestyle. They are just too lazy to get up and move about. Over time, they develop life-threatening illnesses like cardiovascular disorders, weak muscles, diabetes, and more.

Get active to beat stress

Most people complain of stress. They just cannot find ways to beat it because they do not know how to. In order to beat stress, you need to stay being active. Outdoor activity, in any form, increases your heart rate. You will feel fresh air entering your lungs. If you combine any outdoor activity with at least 30 minutes of physical activity, you start feeling good. You get a surge of endorphins rushing into your system, and this helps you to beat the stress levels in the body. Stress builds up a hormone called cortisol that harms the mind and body in several ways. If you are stressed, you must go out and be active to feel and see the difference.

Anouk Govil children should be encouraged to go outside and play. Parents should not make them sit all the time indoors. If they become sedentary early in life, they will quickly fall prey to the dangers of obesity and illnesses in no time!
